28 celebrity quotations of 2008

>> Tuesday, December 30, 2008

In Dolly Anne Carbajal’s column, she posted 28 celebrity quotations that got me so enthused to give my own brief reactions to each.

What I think of what the stars says:

LEA SALONGA: “The day Nic was born eclipses everything else in my life. I’d allow her to follow in my footsteps if she wants to. But I’d tell her the pros and cons of the biz.”
Lucky Nic, you've got yourself a great mama.

DINGDONG DANTES: “I use love as an inspiration to work. So I believe love must come first. Even at least, love for self.”
Good point. But I think you’ve always loved yourself first. No?

GABBY CONCEPCION: “I’m the easiest person to talk to. That’s why I find it strange why some people would rather do things behind my back than tell me what they want pointblank.”
Exactly. Because it's easier for dishonest people to operate behind the back.

CESAR MONTANO: “We should not let the system box us in. A true artist can never work in a box.”
I agree.

AGA MUHLACH: “When my mom died, tumigil ang mundo ko.”
I know what you mean and how you feel. And believe me, it doesn't end either.

OGIE ALCASID: “The hardest song for me to sing are the songs I dedicate to my loved ones because I get too emotional.”
Yes, that’s normal.

AMALIA FUENTES: “There’s life after marriage.”
Oh definitely! There is life... and there is peace.

ANGEL LOCSIN: “I’ve stopped dwelling on competition. I just focus on doing what I have to do the best way I can.”
And you will turn out a winner because your best will come out naturally.

RUFA MAE QUINTO: “After all I’ve been through in the name of love, I deserve nothing less than a fairy tale ending.”
I’d drink to that.

ROXANNE GUINOO: “Sobra kasi ako ma-in love kaya sobra din akong masaktan. But as long as alam kong di ako nagkulang, wala akong dapat pagsisihan.”
You have the power to control yourself, otherwise, they will control you.

DIETHER OCAMPO: “Real gentlemen let silence speak. So silent I will remain.”
Love it!

RICHARD GOMEZ: “I am basically a man of few words. If my being serious on the set while focusing on work is misconstrued as aloofness or even bitchiness then so be it.”
Hmmm!

DENNIS TRILLO: “It’s hard to play a superhero because people look up to you especially kids. So I have to really be good on and off screen so I would be worthy to be a role model.”
It’s never too late to change and be a role model.

PAOLO BEDIONES: “No matter how cruel life turns out to be at the moment, God is good. Period.”
I second the motion.

IZA CALZADO: “I’m not into gorgeous men. I prefer beautiful souls.”
Where can you find them?

TWEETY DE LEON-GONZALES: “I love the constancy of marriage, the everyday chance to fulfill my daydreams, whether flirty or serious. I hate that marriage has brought me to a state of vulnerability and emotional dependence. I hate the transparency of my weakness. But then again it wasn’t marriage that did all these to me. I think it was more like honest-to-goodness, old-fashioned love.”
You make marriage beautiful for the both of you because it’s a decision.

AI AI DE LAS ALAS: “Bagets lovers are good for the complexion but bad for the wallet.”
Glad you know that. You'll never want to be taken for a ride.

MARVIN AGUSTIN: “If I had to live my life all over again, I would still want to start out poor and struggling. Those trials made me appreciate everything I have now.”
Whatta boy!

SUNSHINE CRUZ: “Most guys, di ka papalitan as a girlfriend. Magdadagdag na lang sila.”
Old story. In this case, be dominant and never show your weak side to the guy.

TONI GONZAGA: “It’s not how much you earn, it’s how much you save.”
A natural financial analyst.

VHONG NAVARRO: “I’d rather break a girl’s heart by telling her the truth than mislead her with a lie.”
But easy. Say it in a less painful manner. Well, anyway, it's gonna hurt regardless.

DIREK JOEY REYES: “I refuse to be labeled as ‘Kapuso’ or ‘Kapamilya’. I’d rather be called ‘Katrabaho’.”
Louder, let everybody hear.

LOTLOT DE LEON: “I’ve met many guys but none of them are boyfriend material. Besides, I run away before I fall.”
Yes, be smarter and be wiser.

JOMARI YLLANA: “No matter how bad a breakup is, I never speak ill of an ex-lover.”
Perhaps, because there’s nothing ill to speak about?

MIRIAM QUIAMBAO: If a guy wants to date me exclusively, he should be exclusively mine, too.”
Dream on, girl!

NADIA MONTENEGRO: “I was amazed and appalled at the same time listening to others narrate my life story as they imagined it to be. It sounded like a telenovela unfolding before my eyes.”
It’s called gossip.

LANI MERCADO: “As long as you know your rightful place as a wife, then you have nothing to worry about. When you feel you are weak, raise it all up to God and leave it up to Him.”
Amen!

MARC NELSON: I am a citizen of the world having been raised in various places, but I’m a Pinoy at heart.”
Me too!

P50 million bribery attempts to free three rich men called the "Alabang Boys"

MANILA, Philippines—’Tis the season to be jolly, but not for the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) whose investigation of the alleged attempts to free the three so-called “Alabang Boys” has been hampered by the long holiday break.

NBI Director Nestor Mantaring said the probe of allegations that P50 million was paid to Department of Justice (DoJ) officials for the dismissal of drug charges against Richard Santos Brodett, Jorge Jordana Joseph and Joseph Ramirez Tecson would have to wait until the end of the holidays.

“We have an ongoing investigation but the people we still have to talk to and question are all out of town for the holidays,” Mantaring said.

He said the people to be interviewed were employees of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) and the DoJ.

No access to documents

Several people were interviewed by the NBI Special Task Force, which Mantaring tapped to conduct the probe, but their statements have yet to be reduced to sworn statements about the alleged bribery.

“We cannot even obtain the documents we need in our probe until the offices reopen,” Mantaring said.

The alleged payoff supposedly resulted in state prosecutors recommending the dismissal of the case against Brodett, Joseph and Tecson.

The three rich young men are still under the custody of the PDEA, as the release order for the suspects has not been signed by Justice Secretary Raul Gonzalez.

The three men were arrested by PDEA agents in buy-bust operations in Ayala Alabang, Muntinlupa, and Cubao, Quezon City on Sept. 20. Seized from the suspects were 60 tablets of Ecstasy, sachets of cocaine and marijuana.

Besides the P50-million alleged payoff, three attempts to bribe officers of the PDEA were made for the release of the three men, said Major Ferdinand Marcelino, head of the PDEA Special Enforcement Service, the unit that led the buy-bust operations against the suspects.

Chief State Prosecutor Jovencito Zuño has denied that he and the prosecutors who investigated and reviewed the case had been bribed into recommending the dismissal of charges.

Mantaring told the Philippine Daily Inquirer that the justice secretary was expecting results after the holidays. But the NBI chief said, “I think he (Gonzalez) will understand the delay.”

Boy Abunda: Marian Rivera not the biggest star

Boy Abunda is obviously super honest and straightforward about his feelings with what Kris Aquino had said in The Buzz a couple of weeks ago, that Marian is today’s biggest star. But Kris changed her comment from biggest to hottest after Boy corrected her and explained why Marian cannot be called the biggest star.
I totally agree with Boy about his description of a biggest star and what constitutes one. There is really a lot to be considered before one can be called the biggest star, a title being held by a star for all season, actress Vilma Satos as an example. Marian is hot but not big, perhaps not yet. She still has a long ways to go. But going back to how Marian hit it big, it was Angel Locsin who paved the way for Marian to succeed because the attention shifted from Angel to Marian, at least at GMA7. So, I wonder where Marian would be at this time if Angel did not leave GMA7.

Although Heart has a new boyfriend already, Jericho, on the other hand, is enjoying being single. After his successful teleserye “Kahit Isang Saglit” with Malaysian actress, Carmen Soo, he just made the movie Baler together with Anne Curtis which was a project for the Metro Manila Film Fest for 2008. Jericho received nothing but praises for his great performance in the said movie.
He is also slated to do an episode with former flame Kristine Hermosa in Maalaala Mo Kaya. Jericho had said in an interview that he is always praying for Heart but at the moment, he would rather stay single and focus more on his career, friends and family.

Vicky Belo's young BF, Hayden Kho admits affair with Katrina Halili

It has been the talk of the town that Hayden Kho finally admitted to having a relationship with Katrina Halili. This is common to many May-December relationship. Everybody in showbiz are also talking about two-timer Hayden's suicide attempt, and the "I Love You, Vicky!" that he had written in his body when he was rushed to the hospital in which Kayden had confirmed to be true. According to Hayden, he was sorry, very sorry for what he had done to Vicky. But how sure is Vicky that it will not happen again? In his interview with PEP, Hayden expressed his desire to return to Belo Clinic and to try to win Vicky back, but I wonder if Vicky will ever take him back after all what he's done. Trust is very, very important in a relationship, and if you lose it, it's very hard to get it back.

I mean it’s time dahil masyado ng open, masyado ng talamak ang nakawan. But I don’t want to point fingers dahil wala naman akong karapatan at hindi rin naman tayo sigurado kung ginagawa ba nila yun or hindi. But what I’d like to say is we hear all these billions or hundreds of millions na lumalabas sa mga budget-budget. Sa akin lang, it’s about time we share naman sa mga mahihirap pati na rin sa mga taong naghahanap-buhay. Gawin nating maayos itong bansa natin because bansa natin ito. Hindi rin naman ang mga opisyales ang may-ari ng bansang ito kundi tayo rin. Let's all work hand in hand to make this a better country because sayang talaga yung bansa natin, there's so much promise [in it]."[Showbuz ]

Karylle and Marian Rivera’s reactions towards each other and why

Karylle and Dingdong’s beautiful love affair that has gone awry is now old news to their fans and to those who were following their story, but the real reason for the break up is still a private matter and no further intimate details are about to be spilled by either Karylle or Dingdong, at least, not yet, but the right time will come. So all we hear for now are just plain speculations… until we hear the truth straight from the horse’s mouth.

When asked if Marian was the reason for the breakup, Karyllye responded with “on my side, hindi”. When asked during a whispering segment of a show, if she loves Dingdong, Marian’s response was “matagal na”. If you try to read between the lines, one can easily conclude that Marian’s response is a confirmation of her relationship with Dingdong. Is the secret being revealed on its own? Maybe… could be, little by little and unknowingly.
At the last Sunday’s episode of The Buzz when Karylle bravely faced the tough 10 questions, perhaps some people - who knew beforehand what Question #1 was going to be – could already smell that a bigger issue is about to be born when Karylle, instead of giving an answer, returned the question with a smile. The controversial question was: Is it true that Marian is pregnant? I saw that portion of The Buzz and had my own interpretation of Karylle’s smile. To me, it was a smile of not wanting to be involved again as if there was a message attached to it like “please leave me alone as I have already moved on.” I also thought that she was giving a signal that she doesn’t care anymore. I actually admire Karylle’s attitude and how she intelligently answers any questions thrown at her. She carries herself with delikadesa. That’s my impression of her, perhaps because that’s how she projects herself.
On the other hand, I’m not sure why Marian should be offended by Karylle’s smile. She should understand - or better say, remember - that Karylle was the one whose heart was just recently been broken and she (Marian), apparently, was the reason although Karylle consistently denied it. Marian should also consider that fact that Karylle had to go to a retreat for healing and spiritual guidance for the tremendous pain she went through. Seemingly, Karylle has moved on but Marian’s ordeal was just beginning, and her having so much display of emotion at a recent conference was a sign of heaviness that needed to be let out in tears. But those tears, they say, were tears of guilt. But perhaps, the pregnancy issue got to her nerves and bones, and the burst of tears was inevitable at that moment. Marian is a nice and tough person who will eventually overcome and endure everything, and who also will do anything to protect her career wherein love team with Dingdong is a big part of.
Bottomline, if it’s true that Marian and Dingdong are in a relationship, it will come out in time. I don’t think they would be able to hide it forever unless they will plan to live in a boondock.
