Viral for the wrong reasons: Student vid causes big stir
by Taylor Hannigan

A student who posted a video railing against Asian classmates has left her California school, saying she was harassed and received death threats.

UCLA junior Alexandra Wallace said she was just trying to come up with a funny video for YouTube when she posted a three-minute flick in which she mocked the way Asians speak, said her apartment complex becomes filled with “old Asian people” on the weekends, and suggested that Asian students checking on the status of tsunami victims leave the school’s library first so they don’t disturb others.

The video went viral, garnering millions of views on YouTube. Wallace quickly apologized, but not soon enough to avoid what she says was harassment of her family, publishing of her personal information and death threats. She said she has decided to leave the school.

University officials condemned the video but have declined to discipline Wallace, saying she was exercising her right to free speech.

Chris Brown displays anger again

It only shows he has not changed at all and should take more serious anger management before more people gets hurt again. ABC7 reported:

NEW YORK (KABC) -- Singer Chris Brown reportedly stormed off the set of "Good Morning America" after a live interview and performance on Tuesday.

When Robin Roberts, co-anchor of the morning show, asked Brown about the infamous domestic abuse incident with singer Rihanna, the 21-year-old appeared to become agitated.

When asked if he has seen Rihanna since a restraining order was relaxed, Brown responded, "It's not really a big deal to me now as far as that situation. I think I'm past that in my life."

Although Roberts pressed him on the incident, Brown avoided talking about the situation and instead promoted his new album "F.A.M.E."

"Everybody go get that album," he said.

According to ABC News, Brown stormed off the stage after performing a song from his album. The show's hair and makeup staff called security after hearing loud noises from Brown's dressing room.

After Brown left the building without a shirt on, it was discovered that a window in his dressing room had been smashed, ABC News reported.

Police were not called during the bizarre incident. Paparazzi photos showed the singer leaving the Times Square studio without a shirt on.

"As always, we asked questions that are relevant and newsworthy, and that's what we did in this interview with Mr. Brown," ABC News said in a statement.

Shortly after the interview, Brown tweeted, "All my fans!!! This album is for you and only you!!! I'm so tired of everyone else!! Honestly!! I love team breezy!!"

Roberts, who just opened a Twitter account on Monday, tweeted, "Sure has been an interesting AM @GMA. Still sorting thru everything myself. Just my 2nd day on twitter, wonder what tomorrow will bring?"

Brown pleaded guilty to felony assault stemming from an altercation with Rihanna in 2009. He was sentenced to five years probation and six months of community service. [ABC7 Local]

BILLIONAIRE Bruno Mars [official video]

>> Monday, March 21, 2011

Who is Bruno Mars? Here is a short background: born Peter Gene Hernandez 25 years ago in Hawaii to a Puerto Rican father and Filipino mother, and is also known worldwide as a sought-after collaborator of other contemporary pop acts. Even before “Just the Way You Are” was released, there were two songs, B.o.B’s “Nothin’ on You” and Travie McCoy’s “Billionaire,” that Mars co-wrote and which featured his soulful tenor on lead vocals. The tunes became big hits as well — “Nothin’ on You” went to No. 1 and “Billionaire” reached No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Mars — who said he was nicknamed Bruno by his father after an Italian professional wrestler, Bruno Sammartino, and added Mars as a cool moniker — is very proud of his Filipino roots.

“My mother always had stories about the Philippines where she was born. It rubbed off on us because she’s so proud of her heritage,” Mars told the Inquirer via e-mail.

First in Philippine History - House impeaches Ombudsman Merci

I never thought it will happen but it happened. Ombudsman Merci was impeached by the House of Representatives for betrayal of public trust due to the low conviction rates during her term and her alleged inaction on five high-profile cases. What's next? She will be tried before the Senate's impeachment court - "As the court that would hear the case, the Senate would need a two-thirds vote to boot Gutierrez out of office. Otherwise, she stays on as Ombudsman until she finishes her 7-year term in December 2012."

MANILA, Philippines - For the first time in Philippine history, the House of Representatives has impeached the Ombudsman.

In a vote taken on Tuesday morning, the House of Representatives mustered enough votes to impeach Ombudsman Merceditas Gutierrez and try her before the Senate sitting as an impeachment court.

As the court that would hear the case, the Senate would need a two-thirds vote to boot Gutierrez out of office. Otherwise, she stays on as Ombudsman until she finishes her 7-year term in December 2012.

Lawmakers found enough evidence to have her tried for the following issues: low conviction rate and inaction on the NBN-ZTE scam, fertilizer fund scandal, "Euro generals" scandal, Mega-Pacific deal, and the Philip Pestaño case.

All six cases redound to a betrayal of public trust, sponsors of the Articles of Impeachment argued.

After almost 8 hours, 210 voted to impeach Gutierrez and have the impeachment articles transmitted to the Senate. Forty-seven dissented, while 4 abstained.

The proceedings were hounded by accusations of lobbying from allies of former President and now Pampanga Rep. Gloria Macapagal Arroyo.

Earlier in the day, Rep. Edcel Lagman moved to have the impeachment proceedings “held in abeyance” absent an investigation into the “blackmail” text messages that made the rounds over the weekend.

Taking the floor early in the proceedings, Lagman said the text message “demeans the members of the House of Representatives as salivating mercenaries.”

The text message read that all those will vote no on the impeachment will have their Priority Development Assistance Fund withheld.

The minority was subsequently overruled by the majority.

Justice committee chair Niel Tupas Jr., the sponsor of the impeachment complaint, was later grilled for about 3 hours.

He stood his ground even if several minority lawmakers insisted he and his colleagues in the Justice committee did not have a strong case.

He was also questioned for supposedly rushing procedures before the committee. It went on to hear the case even if the Supreme Court has yet to make final a decision quashing a petition filed by Gutierrez.

Tupas insisted that it was the Ombudsman who is wanting in providing justice by delaying relevant decisions.

Those who acted as interpellators were: Representatives Lagman, Danilo Suarez, Rodante Marcoleta, Carlos Padilla, Augusto Syjuco, Rodolfo Albano, Mitos Magsaysay and Marc Cagas. [abs-cbnNEWS.com]

To all Pacquiao grammar critics, shame on you!

Yes! shame on all those who've got the nerve to criticize Pacquiao who have brought so much excitement and honor to our country. Have you done anything at all to make our country proud? I think Pacquiao is more admirable than all of YOU who are nothing but "walang binatbat" (losers) as they say. Looking at Pacquiao's riches, I'd rather have that than your perfect (kuno) grammar. Again, shame on you!

Pacman blasts grammar critics
By Barry Viloria, abs-cbnNEWS.com

MANILA, Philippines – Pound-for-pound king Manny Pacquiao hit back at people who have been criticizing his grammar on the social networking site Twitter.

Pacquiao was apparently unhappy over criticisms regarding his usage of the English language.

"Its doesn't matter of the grammar as long they understand the message thanks," he tweeted.

Pacquiao, also a lawmaker, said that English is not his native tongue.

"Tyong lhat pinoy ang slita ntin ay tgalog we should use our language we're nt american, jpan, chna, atbp. They're using there own language," he tweeted.

He stressed: "We should proud in our language that's the real pinoy yan ang tama thank you God Bless everyone."

Pacquiao opened an official Twitter account last month.

However, Pacquiao received criticism over his grammar, which almost prompted the boxer to close the account.

Pacquiao has thought of a way to shield himself from his critics.

"Now I know how to block those haters hehe," he said.

Pacman blasts faux ‘Mommy D’

Pacquiao also lashed out at Twitter accounts who are pretending to be and are making fun of his mother, Dionesia.

"Sorry but Mommy D don't have twitter account so please stop pretending that you're mommy mahiya naman kayo na gumagamit ng iba thank you," he said.

"Kung ako man mahiya akong gumamit ng iba kasi parang wala tayong tiwala sa sarili natin plastic kong tawagin nagtatago sa ibang anyo ty," the Sarangani congressman added.

In his latest tweet, an apparently upset Pacquiao said that pretending to be someone else does no good.

"Pasensya na kaya lng ayw ko ksi ng taong hndi totoo sa sarili ksi ako kong ano man ako, ako to totoong tao ako hndi ako marunong mag pangap,” he said.

UCLA Student critized Asian Students on YouTube - watch video

To be a racist is one thing, and to go public with it is another - which is a very stupid thing to do. This young woman did more harm to herself than to the Asians she criticized. And of course, the university is not proud about it. Hope everyone learned a lesson here. Watch video.

UCLA condemns video criticizing Asian students
By Soo Oh and Shelby Grad

UCLA officials are condemning a video making its way around the Internet that shows a white UCLA student criticizing the behavior of Asian students.

The video has generated criticism on campus and a university spokesman said officials were looking into the matter.

"We've seen the video and it includes comments that we find offensive," spokesman Phil Hampton said. "They are contrary to the values of UCLA."

In the video, the female student, Alexandra Wallace, complains about the manners of Asian students, among other things. An excerpt:

"The problem is these hordes of Asian people that UCLA accepts into our school every single year, which is fine. But if you're going to come to UCLA then use American manners.

"So it used to really bug me but it doesn't bother me anymore the fact that all the Asian people that live in all the apartments around me -- their moms and their brothers and their sisters and their grandmas and their grandpas and their cousins and everybody that they know that they've brought along from Asia with them -- comes here on the weekends to do their laundry, buy their groceries and cook their food for the week. It's seriously, without fail. You will always see old Asian people running around this apartment complex every weekend. That's what they do. They don't teach their kids to fend for themselves. You know what they don't also teach them, is their manners." [source: LA Times]

for less talk, less trouble
and no talk, no trouble
be more quiet and listen more
so that you may live with peace and joy.

emotions, emotions
causes too much reactions
can't think, can't process
they're tiring to the mind, heavy to the heart

stop kidding around when no one seems laughing
stop whining all the time when no one seems to care
for yourself is all that matters
it's always waiting to be pampered
by you, only you
who cares if there's none
as long as there's you

treat yourself good, treat yourself nice
live your life, laugh out loud
smile a lot but cry your hurts out
always remember to always put your best foot forward
and pray to God to lead you always
to the light and the right path.

Prince William invites former Pinay nanny to his wedding

This is such a beautiful article that surprised me and oh so proud of.

The princes' Pinay nanny invited to Royal wedding
By Ricardo F. Lo (The Philippine Star)

LONDON AP) — Keep an eye on the mailbox. Britain’s Prince William and bride-to-be Kate Middleton have posted out invites to their hotly-anticipated royal wedding at the Westminster Abbey on April 29 to around 1,900 guests, officials said yesterday. — News item in The STAR’s World News section, Feb. 21, 2011

The next day, another wire story came out about a 19-year-old high-school student, described as “a Royalty fan,” who was camping outside the British Embassy in Mexico City for nine days hoping to get an invitation to the wedding of the year which is getting the whole world excited the way the wedding of William’s parents, Prince Charles and Princess Diana, did in 1981. William is 28 and Kate is 29.

Luckily, the Pinay nanny of William’s brother, Prince Harry, didn’t have to go on a hunger strike to get an invitation. She already did — without even lifting a finger or perhaps without even expecting it. She’s none other than Araceli “Lillie” Piccio, a nurse from Bacolod, who was a member of Lady Di’s household staff for eight years until Lady Di died in a car crash in Paris in 1997.

Called “Miss Lillie” by Lady Di, Lillie is the sister of my friend Nimfa “Buddai” Piccio who confirmed to me that Lillie, who is still working in London but under another employer, did receive the invitation.

“As usual,” said Buddai (who writes a society column for a Bacolod paper), “the invitation states that’s it’s good for the one invited ‘and one’.”

Knowing Buddai, I’m sure she will fly to London to accompany Lillie to the wedding. I recall Buddai telling me that on one occasion, Lillie brought her to a royal occasion and Buddai said that she almost fainted when she saw Lady Di in person.

I was in London in 1989 to cover Lea Salonga’s first month as Kim in the megahit Cameron Mackintosh musical Miss Saigon when Buddai, who was then also working there, related to me her close encounter with Royalty. We were then touring the Windsor Castle which would fly the British Flag when Queen Elizabeth II was there.

Back to Buddai’s close brush with Lady Di…

“When Princess Diana came near me, greeting everybody along the line, I curtsied,” Buddai had recalled. ”I was so thrilled that I lost my balance. The Princess bent over to help me up pero nabuwal na naman ako habang hawak-hawak ko ang kamay niya. The guards promptly surrounded us but the Princess very politely and, with a smile, waved them away, saying, ‘It’s all right, it’s all right.’ The Princess is so beautiful, she looks like a goddess in person.”

At the Piccio’s apartment that night, over dinner of lugaw and scrambled eggs with tausi (black beans), my favorite recipe, I asked Lillie how it felt to be walking on the same ground and breathing the same air as the Royal Family did. She was then on her fourth year as member of Lady Di’s household staff.

This was what I wrote in Funfare when I came back, dated Dec. 7, 1989:

“They are nice,” said Lillie, “down-to-earth, very humane and exactly the opposite of all the crap the London tabloids are publishing about them. Kami nga, hindi na naniniwala sa mga dyaryo dito when they print stories about the Royal Couple. Panay hindi totoo, e! It’s a good thing if one out of 10 stories they print is true. When we go over those papers, we keep on saying, ‘Oh no, this is not true! That’s not true!’ We know because we are at the Royal Apartment every day (except Sunday when (everything and everybody in London screeches to an abrupt halt, including the theaters).” Lillie is among the 30 Royal household staffers, the only Filipina in the group and the first Filipina ever to have been employed by the Royal Family. Lillie enjoys the job immensely, not so much because of the nice salary (confidential) but because, and especially since, Princess Diana “is very, very nice to all of us.” The Princess and the Prince never forget to give a gift, accompanied by a card with a touching dedication, to each and every member of the Royal Household Staff who spends his/her birthday. The card is always signed: From the Four of Us, Diana and Charles.

Lillie and the other household staff are not stay-in. They report to work very early in the morning and leave early evening. Sometimes, Lady Di would remind Lillie, “Miss Lillie, please wake me up tomorrow morning.” That means that first thing Lillie does when she arrives at Kensington Palace is go straight to Lady Di’s bedroom for the wake-up call.

During important occasions at the Royal Home, such as Christmas, Lillie and company get invitations a month in advance. They gather at a certain place where they are picked up by a bus which brings them to wherever the affair is being held. Each staffer is entitled to bring along one companion.

How did Lillie get into the Royal Household?

She said she was working part-time at ITV-4 when a lady (the one who recruits “candidates” to the Royal Household Staff) approached her and asked her if she wanted to work “with the Royal Family.” Lillie was told that the job would include arranging the Royal Couple’s things (clothes, etc.) and looking after their children. Lillie was hesitant, not wanting to be confined to a nine-to-five job again (she’s a nurse, remember?), but she reconsidered.

“I didn’t know I was going to work with Princess Diana and Prince Charles until the next day when I was brought to the Kensington Palace,” said Lillie, a gracious and graceful lady you’ll fall in love with at first meeting. “The Lord Chamberlain walked with me to an apartment within the Royal Compound. When I looked closely at the sign at the gate, I froze. It says, PRINCE AND PRINCESS OF WALES’ APARTMENT. It was only then that I learned who my master and mistress would be.”

Lillie’s first meeting with Lady Di happened in the morning of her first day at the Royal Household. While taking breakfast with some members of the staff, Lillie could hear sweet laughter of a woman obviously playing hide-and-seek with some kids in the other part of the house. By and by, Lady Di materialized at the dining-room door and Lillie gasped, nearly choking on her food.

“Oh,” Lady Di said with a big smile, “so you’re the new one.”

Then she approached Lillie and extended her hand in warm welcome. Lillie frantically made a gesture to wipe her hand but the Princess stopped her, “That’s all right, that’s all right,” and proceeded to shake Lillie’s hand. The Ilongga was stunned. “At that instant,” Lillie now recalled, “I felt how kind she is, what a beautiful person she is inside and out.”

That warmth exuded by Lady Di, not to mention her breathtaking beauty, is what keeps the staff working at the Royal Household for years and years (some have been there for more than 15 years). The Royal Couple sometimes hosts barbecue parties at the Highgrove House, located a few miles outside of London, for the staffers. There, the Princess and the Prince talk to the butler, the cook, to everybody, in a personal manner that never fails to disarm the staffers.

Lady Di is also generous with gifts. Lillie has accumulated in the apartment (she shares with another sister, Virgie) stuffed toys (given to her by the Princess herself from the teeming cabinet of Princes Harry and William) and flowers of all kinds (also given by the Princess).

“Once you work with them, you’ll never want to leave them,” said Lillie to whose ears Princess Diana’s laughter while playing hide-and-seek with Princes Harry and William in the morning has become sweet music she can’t live without.

Last week, Ronald Constantino and I had lunch with Buddai at Via Mare when she was in Manila for the People Power’s 25th-anniversary celebration. She kept us posted on what else Lillie had experienced while working with Lady Di.

Lillie was the nanny of Prince Harry, and Prince William, too. She told Buddai that as a kid, William, only a toddler when Lillie started working for Lady Di, was hyperactive. He would run around the place while playing hide-and-seek with brother Harry and their mom who was usually barefooted at play. Everytime Lillie got a bunch of pasalubong from the Philippines, she would share some of them with Lady Di whose favorite was preserved mango.

Only a few months after Lady Di died, Lillie resigned from the Royal Household Staff and worked for Bryan Adams for more than a year. She has moved to another employer since then.

“Mabait talaga ang Royal Family,” said Buddai.

The invitation to Lillie proves it. It shows that the Royal Family remember and acknowledge those who work with and for them even if they have moved somewhere else.

When Lillie left the Royal Household Staff, Buddai remembered what Prince William, who was then turning 16, told Lillie, “When I get married, I will take you back.”

(Postscript: I still have the three stuffed toys Lillie had given me during my London visit in 1989. They were among the stuffed toys Lady Di would bring home as pasalubong for Princes William and Harry from her trips abroad, some of them given away to members of the Royal Household Staff. Among Lillie’s souvenirs are autographed photos of Lady Di and Prince Charles but she never had any photo with them. Protocol forbade the household staff from being photographed with the royal couple.)

What can stop this girl from bullying?

>> Friday, March 4, 2011

Here is another bully that just won't stop. What I don't understand is why is her identity being protected and the victim's exposed. Here is the report from Education Tech News:

What’s even worse than bullying? THIS
February 26, 2011 by Claire Knight

A female student allegedly tormented a male classmate for months. In the most recent incident, she pelted him with raw eggs on the school bus. But it gets much, much worse:

Not satisfied with humiliating 12-year-old Tommy Benton on the bus, the unnamed female posted a video of the egging on YouTube.

Benton’s mother had already been in contact with officials at Howard Middle School about the ongoing bullying problem, so local media got involved and covered the story in a segment on bullying.

The girl was suspended for 10 days.

But that’s not all …

Apparently, the bully enjoyed her 15 minutes of fame.

After the media coverage, the girl posted a second video on YouTube, mocking her victim.

The videos were removed from YouTube the following morning, but the damage had already been done.

Now, school officials, law enforcement and parents have to deal with the aftermath.

Turns out, this isn’t the first time she’s been suspended for bullying this particular classmate, so local law enforcement recommended that the girl should be charged with battery.

The recommendation has been forwarded to the state attorney’s office, according to reports.

And the girl’s family? They’ve apologized and say she needs to be punished.

What can school officials do when bullying is this extreme and students aren’t remorseful for their actions? Read comments below the article.

Phil Younghusband: Angelica misunderstood it

>> Thursday, March 3, 2011

MANILA, Philippines – Azkals midfielder Phil Younghusband has responded to actress Angelica Panganiban’s tweet regarding the latter’s stand on his decision to pursue his acting ambitions.

In an interview with ABS-CBN News on Thursday, Younghusband said Panganiban must have misinterpreted the report that he is doing an independent film.

Younghusband clarified that his role in the upcoming movie is his way to promote football.

“I don’t think Angelica probably realized it. The indie film was not me acting. It’s not about me getting into acting or being an artista. It’s about football. It’s about promoting football. Maybe she just misunderstood it,” he explained.

The football player emphasized that, as of the moment, his main priority is really football.

On Thursday, Panganiban voiced out her "sadness" on Twitter upon learning that Younghusband is set to appear in an independent film.

The actress' tweet was: "Si Phil may indie film? Akala ko ba football player siya??? Lahat na lang artista na. Sad.”

According to Panganiban, it would be better if Younghusband will first devote his time to football before pursuing an acting career.

Angelica Panganiban in trouble again?

It all started from Angelica's twits...

... that hurt a Phil Younghusband fan, and then the war of words began.

PEP reports:

I dont think so :) mukhang busy lang sila kkpractice para laging manalo :)" saad niya.

"masama. Sana lang mag focus muna silang lahat sa football. Para sa pinas kasi yun. #justsayin' after na lang ng tourny mag artista."

"Ang kitid ng utak ng iba. D ko sinasabing ang gusto ko eh ako lang ang artista. Kung gusto pala nya mag artista, sana d na sya nag football."

"Sana sa pbb sya sumali :) d sa azkals. Baka mapuyat sya sa shooting d sya makalaro ng maayos. Gets nyo ba ko? O buong araw natin to issue?"

"Magaling mag football si phil. Stick to that muna :) kakasimula pa lang natin sa football. Baka mas magenjoy sya sa acting. Sayang."

"Ayan. Ok na ha? Concerned citizen lang po ako. Theres no need to promote FB everynight na sila nasa news.

(CLICK HERE to read related story.)

ANGELICA FIGHTS BACK.
